The Cleopatra-inspired Serpentina Palette caught my eye with its gorgeous packaging and muted rainbow of jewel toned shadows. This is Kat Von D's first all-vegan palette (#VeganAlert), and she is currently veganizing her entire makeup line!
The Serpentina Eyeshadow Palette, $45, comes with 8 pressed eyeshadows and 1 loose pigment (pictured above and swatched below). The pressed eyeshadow shades in the palette are said to be "formulated in Kat’s signature triple-milled, super-pigmented formula for instant, opaque payoff and silky blendability." The loose pigment is intended for a variety of uses: to "gild lids, comb through lashes and brows, [mix] with primer for a custom gold highlighter, or pat over your favorite [lipstick]".
"Bloodmilk"- Deep Dark Red (Matte)- It is really awesome to see a pigmented red shadow formulated without carmine. This shade is less buttery than the other shades in the palette. That being said, it is very buildable from sheer to opaque.
"Medusa"- Shimmering Olive Gold (Pearl)- This one is so stunning and buttery smooth. The olive tones make it more unique than a traditional antiqued gold shade, and the pearly texture catches the light beautifully. Pictured below, I am wearing it all over the lid with "Ankh" blended in the crease and "Prophet" patted in the center.
"Ankh"- Blackened Brown (Shimmer)- This shade is mostly matte with a bronze micro-shimmer throughout, which allows it to work as both a glittery statement shade as well as a blending color for smoky eye looks. It is a unique alternative to a matte black shadow. In the photo below I am wearing it not only in the crease but also as my eyeliner (applied wet).
"Queen"- Dark Burgundy Wine (Pearl)- Another buttery soft shade, I love how this one catches the light. This shade is perfect for a grungy fall smoky eye look with "Bloodmilk" blended into the crease.
"Hieroglyph"- Metallic Copper Orange (Pearl)- Like the other pearl shades in the palette, this one is buttery and smooth. It makes me think of frolicking in a pumpkin patch and shopping for halloween costumes. I have paired this with the "Prophet" pigment in the center of the lid to stunning results.
"Nile"- Bright Royal Blue (Pearl)- Another extremely buttery hue, Nile is a super unique and vivid shade of blue. This one does have a bit of fall-out, so I would recommend applying it over an eyeshadow primer to give it something to adhere to.
"Scarab"- Frosted Turquoise Green (Pearl)- This shade is like a muted dark mermaid fantasy. It is super soft and buttery and possibly the most eye-catching of the bunch.
"Venom"- True Medium Purple (Matte)- The second of two matte shades in the palette is similarly less soft to the touch, but the subtly muted shade of purple is quite unique.
"Prophet"- Luminous Green-Tinged Gold (Loose Pigment)- This is such a unique and stunning pigment. I love that it can be used for a variety of applications, from a pop of eyeshadow color to a standout lip look (as pictured below), and can also be applied wet for a more gilded effect.

Overall, I think this is a very unique palette with a variety of bold shades which can be used to create a wide array of looks. I love the imaginative theme and fun shade names. It is a limited edition summer release, but the colors totally have me ready and excited for fall!
