I have had my eye on the Jeffree Star Beauty Killer Palette for a while, but held off on purchasing it, thinking I wouldn't be daring enough to wear some of the bolder hues. But as more reviews and tutorials came out, I couldn't resist picking it up to see what all the hype was about. Jeffree Star Cosmetics is known for amazing Velour Liquid Lipsticks available in a plethora of unique and colorful shades, as well as the new Skin Frost highlighting powders and Velour Lip Scrubs. The line is completely animal-friendly (vegan and cruelty-free).
The Beauty Killer Palette, $45, comes with 10 large shadows (pictured above and swatched below). It has a good mix of staple colors along with bold and bright hues.
Top Row L to R:
"Star Power"- Hot Neon Barbie Pink (Matte)- This is the quintessential Jeffree Star color. I am happy to add this shade to my collection, as it can be a challenge to find vegan and eye-safe shadows this color. It also doubles as a pretty blush.
"Princess"- Frosty Baby Pink (Frost)- An unexpected standout for me, this one has a really buttery texture and is gorgeous all over the lid and as a highlight. It has a touch of lavender, which makes it a bit more interesting than a standard baby pink shadow. The pictures do not do this one justice. I also enjoy knowing that the inspiration for this one came from Toddlers and Tiaras.
"Violence"- Soft Crushed Berry (Frost)- Another buttery shade, Violence has a blueish purple iridescence throughout. I have had fun playing with this one for an unconventional purple smokey eye look. It has a very warm pink undertone.
"Rich Bitch"- Metallic Gold (Frost)- This one has a fine glittery texture and is less buttery than the other frost shades in the palette. The gold color is extremely lustrous and pops even more when applied wet.
"Courtney"- Terracotta Warm Nude (Matte)- I have been playing with this one as a warm grungy transition shade in the crease. It pairs well with other warm shades I have been loving lately, like Nabla Cosmetics' "Rust".
Bottom Row L to R:
"Expensive"- Shimmery Bold Teal (Glitter)- Expensive is the "scariest" color for me to wear, because blue eyeshadow always makes me think of Mimi from The Drew Carey Show. That being said, this color is absolutely stunning and I look forward to pushing myself outside of my makeup boundaries!
"Confession"- Rusty Soft Burgundy (Frost)- One of my favorites from the bunch, Confession is ideal for a grungy smokey eye look, and provides an amazing color contrast to blue eyes. Like Princess and Violence, it is extremely buttery.
"Vanity"- Blackened Plum (Matte)- This one is a nice alternative to a matte black or brown shadow for smoking out the crease and outer corners of the eyes. It is very dark and pigmented.
"China White"- Creamy Porcelain (Matte)- Finally! A super creamy light shadow with peachy undertones, perfectly neutral for all over my lid and brow bone. It blends in so well with my skin tone that it is hard to see in the swatches below!
"Black Rainbow"- Black (Glitter)- Last but certainly not least, Black Rainbow is extremely pigmented, and well-suited for dramatic smokey eye looks with an edge.
Although I was hesitant at first to step outside my comfort zone, this palette has excited and inspired me to try some new bold and colorful looks! I will say that Star Power, Expensive and Vanity have a bit of a staining effect (my arm looked like it had a faint tattoo after removing these swatches), but that being said, I am not complaining; I like the extra assurance that the shadows are going to stay put throughout the day! The palette itself is very lightweight and ideal for traveling due to the huge variety of looks that can be created with it. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the quality and pigment of these shadows, and I would definitely recommend giving the Beauty Killer Palette "a whirl", as Jeffree would say.
